Braving The Storms is an excellent book with crisp writing and a superb plot. As usual with Kyle Pratt books, the characters are authentic and true to life. This is the third and presumably final book in the Strengthen What Remains series. Personally, I hope Kyle continues the series as this book leaves a few loose ends and concludes on a slightly unsatisfying note.As for the storyline, its a goodie. It's one thing to survive nuclear attacks, economic upheaval, and a societal collapse. But now Caden Westmore and crew have to deal with a lethal pandemic that's dropping huge chunks of the population like flies. Talk about your worst nightmare! The Braving The Storms title in no way captures the scope of the drama, intrigue, and action contained in this story. Make no mistake, this is a superb book that will keep you turning the pages.

So close to what I feel a catastrophic event will be like in our nation. Good will struggle to keep the
balance, however, Evil will always be not far away. Well placed, very well written at the understandable
level. Yes, the main individual in the story is very realistic. Mr. Pratt has the ability to place the reader
both in the mind of that major magnet, or along side him as part of the heroic struggle to rebuild a new
America. I read the first of the author's series (3) and could not wait to dive into the next and then
the next. I am anxiously awaiting for the next step forward. Thanks you Mr. Pratt.
I loved this book. The whole series is terrific. You know how good a series is when you come to the end and find your self seriously disappointed you have to wait for more. I read all three of these one after the other and found myself getting attached to so many of the characters. Fast paced, realistic, and likely prophetic. I can't wait for more from Kyle Pratt.
First off get the other 2 books and read them in order. I would have given the book 5 stars but, I was able to figure out what the last mission was going to get at about the 80% mark in the book. The book never went into the real important information or the help the person was going to give up after the mission. And a chapter or two more about getting the country back as one again would have me giving it 5 stars. For me it ended without ending the story fully.
I have really enjoyed this series and this installment may have been the best of the three primary parts. I don't know if Mr Pratt plans to continue this story or not but, personally, I hope he does. I would love to read more of this storyline. Recommend.
This is the third book in this series that I've read. The plot/storyline is interesting but the author seems to fall flat with descriptions of people and action as it's happening. He sets up a scene, a few terse strings of dialog follow, then boom, something happens and everyone goes home. Interesting enough to pique my curiosity and buy the next installment, but not nearly close enough to rate five stars...
This series just keep getting better. It continues to explore the challenges, losses and threats to the main characters of the story. A pandemic is the latest threat and is handled in a very realistic way. Character development in the midst of these problems is very believable and you really care what happens to them. Highly recommended. I can't wait for the next book.
This continuation of the series does not disappoint the reader in any manner. The novel itself covers a little over three months of time in Major Caden Westmore's life. The book starts on the 20th of September in Washington State and ends there on the 24th of December. Reading it, however, it seems as though it must have seemed liked forever to the troops who fought numerous battles. And, those were not only against the enemy forces but also against the complete devastation and deaths due to the Kern flu.
This flu has a mortality rate of 20 - 25 % and once exposed to it the deaths occur within 3 - 5 days. And, at first glance it appears that war will occur after the flu has run its course over the winter. War does become imminent much more quickly than that, however. There are multiple deaths of family members and murders of neighbors which illustrate the despair of living in this new society. Despite all of this mayhem, the author manages to paint a picture of hope on the horizon. Faith pays an integral part in this story which I thought helped the plot measurably. Despite the serious theme I did have to laugh with the 'zero dark thirty' phrase uttered by Major Westmore! It has been a very long time since I thought about that phrase.
All in all, this third book is an excellent continuation in this series. Plot is well defined, strong characters and an ending which leaves the reader with a smile on his/her face.
